In case the naming pattern of their children helps...All entries from Greenock.

There is a little gap from their marriage in 1808 until the first birth on the index (doesn't mean that there were no children born if the birth doesn't show, not all did at this time).

Janet 1810
William 1814
Elizabeth 1816
Richard 1819
Robert Livingston 1823

A possibility for Mary??

If the 1851 entry for Mary shows her correct birth place as Pollockshaws (as showing on FreeCen), this would come under the Eastwood Parish in Renfrewshire.

From SP, maybe this one? Surname as indexed:

Mary LIVISTON
Parents RICHARD LIVISTON/JANET MCLAREN
21/04/1784
562/20 175
Eastwood Renfrewshire

Likely this is the source of the name Richard?

I think Monica’s find re Mary’s baptism is much more likely to be the right one than the one I found

Thank you Carole.
I think it's the period where I might face some issue regarding the spelling "change" (don't know how to say it in English)

Hi

Couple of issues with spelling to bear in mind.  It can be a problem for several reasons - here are 2 that spring to mind.

Back then - large numbers of people were illiterate so their details were recorded as they were spoken/heard.  You also have to allow for local dialect.

Livingston was unlikely to have been spoken with any emphasis on the letter G so probably as Livinston/Liviston/Liviton etc

There is also the problem of poor handwriting by whoever recorded the details originally and the transcription resulting from it.  In many cases given the combination of bad handwriting and an old and possibly faded document it’s often “best guess”

If you get stuck - you know where we are  :)
