Oliver Story parents
« on: Friday 14 December 18 10:24 GMT (UK) »
I have a 20 year old brick wall. His Military record shows that Oliver was born in Drumalee, Co Cavan, about 1798. He joined the 58th Regiment of Foot when he was 16. In 1827 he married Emily Lord, b about 1795. They had 2 sons that I know of, Richard 1828, and James 1832. Oliver and Emily are both buried in Belturbet,  Co Cavan.
I am hoping to find Oliver's parents and siblings. It seems there were no civil records at the time of his birth, and I can't find a Church of Ireland record either.
I'm getting old and running out of time.............

The first Civil Registration started in 1845 of non Catholic marriages
Births and Deaths didn't start until 1864.

There are four townlands called Drumalee in Co Cavan.

Using the search here https://thecore.com/seanruad/ you can see what Civil Parish they were in which usually corresponds to COI Parish, you can than check if any parish records survive for each parish.

I don’t know if this is useful, but my aunt who is still alive, but has dementia was married to a Lake Storey. He died many years ago but they lived in Killeshandra, he was an auctioneer.

There is an ancestry tree which gives the father as Francis Story - 1770 - 1811 Belturbet, County Cavan, Ireland. If this is not you it may give a contact..........

sources given..............

Thank you to everyone who replied to my post, that was a great response!
I have very good information from Oliver's military record, it is on findmypast as well as Fold3.
Francis Storey is on my Ancestry Tree, I will make it private because I have no current proof. I have been trying to follow the common first names, but they often branch out to first and second cousins.
I intend doing more searches on findmypast this summer while the weather is too hot for anything else (Australia).
My Storeys were Masons, which is a bit of help, but so were lots of others.
Does anyone know how to find a link to 'Storeys of Old', I seem to have filed mine somewhere rather obscure.
I will follow up the Killashandra family, they must be connected.
I have yet to check the Parish registers, they are on RootsIreland.ie. For some reason I keep forgetting to look at the Dublin Registers, maybe because I have a hunch that the family were in the Ulster Plantation. There are many Storey/Noble marriages in the Border Reiver era, and later, but as you would expect, not a lot of detail,
