Thanks for that at least another one ruled out as for the McFarlane have checked for Ogilvie McFarlane marriage in case she was married before although it says spinster on her marriage nothing there are a few starting from 1871 incase her mum married a McFarlane   after she was born but still doesn't explain why I can't find a Susan Ogilvie birth
The only thing I  can think of is she was "adopted" herself and Susan wasn't the name she was registered with can't even find her before 1901 in the census

Can you please give all the information on the 1902 record. What address do you see for Alexander and for Amelia. I am looking for Amelia in 1901 census.

Witnesses might be  Archibald LORNE and Jeannie McGUIRE. I cannot see him on the 1901 census. Does he sign on the record?

"Brides Ellen Muir domestic servant deceased adopted by William Spencer tailor and Susan Spencer formally McFarlane MS Ogilvie"

Am I reading this correctly...Amelia's mother was Ellen Muir and...
Ellen Muir was adopted by "William Spencer" & "Susan Spencer formally McFarlane MS Ogilvie"

Witnesses Archibald Lorne and Jeanie McGuire

Brides Ellen Muir domestic servant deceased adopted by William Spencer tailor and Susan Spencer formally McFarlane MS Ogilvie
I think that is formerly rather than formally, and that terminology sometimes indicates that she was first married to a Mr McFarlane then to William Spencer. However it can also indicate a change of surname for another reason so it could well be that she is the one registered as Susan McFarlane.
