Brien family of Myshall
« on: Saturday 15 December 18 12:28 GMT (UK) »
I have the baptism of Ann Brien who was baptised at Myshall in July 1831. The register named her parents as Michael Brien & Ann Doyle. I’ve searched for a marriage between Michael Brien and Ann Doyle but haven’t found one yet, neither can I find any more children born to the couple. I’m not very experienced with Irish records so I’m not sure where to look next really  :-\

Do you know if the fathers occupation was a Carpenter
Here is a later birth in Clonroche,Wexford to a couple by same names but might just be coincidence

I’m not sure what Michael’s occupation was but I’ll consider it  :)

Thank you Maggsie

Have you tried variations of surname Brien such as Bryan and O'Brien.

I came across one couple that had a very big family. The mother's name changed Brien Bryan and o'Brien. Lucky for me the father has an unusual surname and they stayed living in same house.

Good luck with your research.

Thank you, I’ll definitely try some wildcards for the surname. I believe there is a link between Bartholomew Brien and the Brien family - he was named as a witness at the 1853 marriage.

Thank you dathai. Given Bartholomew’s year of birth (about 1833), do you think it’s plausible that he was probably a brother of Ann Brien or maybe a cousin?

I’ve just found a 1833 baptism for Bartholomew:

12 July 1833, Myshall Parish
Barth Brein
Son of Barth Brein and Catherine Finn

He wasn’t Michael Brien’s son then but could have been his nephew. I’m almost certain this is the right family though because there was also a Bridget Finn who was present at the 1853 marriage of Ann Brien, possibly a relation of Bartholomew’s mother?
