HUMPHRYS in Newington
« on: Sunday 16 December 18 15:13 GMT (UK) »
Years ago I asked my late mother-in-law about her family as I took notes. Basically I wound up with a list of names. The only certainty I've found (before the 20th century) was a marriage date for Mum's grandparents: Louisa Mary STEVENSON-WOODHOUSE marries William HUMPHRYS 01 Apr 1876, Parish of Saint Mary, Newington.

We know approximate dates for Louisa (1855 to Dec 1927), her suggested birthplace of Great Yarmouth in Norfolk and the names of her parents (Eliza Stevenson & James Woodhouse). All we know of William HUMPHRYS is that his father might be named 'Samuel' and he might be a plumber by trade.

Does anyone have information on the HUMPHRYS clan?

Hi Brian,

The 1891/1901 census shows William born c.1852, Walworth, London. Occupations - plumber, painter and glazier.

Louisa Mary STEVENSON-WOODHOUSE marries William HUMPHRYS 01 Apr 1876, Parish of Saint Mary, Newington.

The marriage confirms his father as Samuel a plumber and decorator.

At the time William is also a plumber and decorator living 189 East Street.

Witnesses are both Woodhouse so no more clues there.
