HI My friends Grand Father James Kelly : Born in Liverpool ( dies 1965 ) Kings Liverpool .

I have posted on GWF and have some information but my question to the Wizz's here :

Here is their info:

4649   Brooks enlisted in 3/7 on the 23 June 1915. He signed the Imperial and General Service Obligation to serve overseas on enlistment in Bootle.  He joined the BEF 16 August 1916.
4652 Chicken enlisted in 3/7 on the 25 June 1915. He signed the Imperial Obligation to serve overseas on enlistment in Bootle.  He embarked Southampton 28 February 1916.
4670 enlisted in 3/7 on the 29 June 1915. Deserter.
4688 enlisted in the 3/7 Battalion on 29 June 1915.  He was discharged a month later in Bootle, under age.
 
So we can say with a reasonable degree of certainty he enlisted in the 3/7 KLR a third line or reserve unit of the Territorial Force on or around the 29th June 1915 in Bootle.
 
We know from his medal roll he did not go overseas until after 31/12/1915.  There is a pencil note in the Roll under the 7th King’s L’Pool Regt which says, 17 Btn “  “ which I take as the 1/7.  It therefore seems likely he was in the February draft, but I wouldn’t bet the house on it (perhaps a small wager!)
 
 

Would any experts here have any info on his movements ?

I read the sequence of units served in overseas as:
7 Battalion KLR
17 Bn KLR - I see the ditto marks indicating a late entry of 17 Battalion and not 1/7
Labour Corps
10 KOSB

The Labour Corps number is in the Sep/Nov 1917 block BUT spare numbers were allocated out of sequence so that can only be indicative

10 KOSB was not formed as such until Jun 1918 and began life as a garrison guard battalion which was itself formed out of men in the Labour Corps with infantry experience.  You'll note a number of Labour Corps/10 KOSB on the medal roll.  Looking any surviving records for these would help with the later dates of his service.

Have to say I'm reading it the same as MaxD.
Also have to say that although I can't i.d. his cap badge as it's a bit blurred it doesn't look like any of the Regts. he's listed as being in.

Have you looked on the Devereux Database for any info on him on the Kings Regt  WW1 database  on the first floor  of The Museum of Liverpool Life at the Pier Head. Liverpool.
You have to key in his name o the Touch Screen Pad at the base of the Medal Tower then select James this may give you more info on him.
There were 4 pages on my Granddads life and service in the Kings.

The cap badge is for the King's Liverpool regiment.

My reading is that if the KLR number/name does not turn up a result, it simply means he isn't in the database.  The search doesn't come up with his other numbers (as they are not KLR perhaps that is unsurprising).

It certainly looks as if he is, like 60% of Great War soldiers, one whose service records were lost in WW2 and the nearest we can get to dates is as posted earlier.
