It's tricky as I've got family pics from 1930s-1950s that could all match this one. I had an uncle who used to snap everything. The ones of my Mum in the 1930s have a similar feel. I also have some of me with the dog in about 1952 which has the same light leaks!.  Men are difficult to date because of wearing best suits for years!

Going by the length of the jacket and four buttons,I’d say the jacket was 1920s,but he is obviously in his workaday clothes ,in the garden so an old jacket and the photograph could be up to the 30’s.
I think Imalso see a pin,fastening the two sides of his collar together which was the way at one time but I could not say exactly.

The only person this could be is my Great Grand Father who died in 1927 aged 72, all the other males in the family are accounted for.

I thought 1950s, for exactly the same reason!!  Don't forget, the style of the suit might be years old, people tended to wear the same thing for years.
Have you got any other photos, say weddings, which you might be able to use to identify him?  (thinking outside the box).  I have had a great deal of success recently by posting my unidentified "shoebox" photos on our local Facebook history forum for the village.  So many people have supplied names, I have reunited people with ancestral photos that have no family connection to me (they were friends of my family).  And my biggest success, a photo of a wedding with bridesmaids, groomsmen and an older man.  Lady's mum was on the photo, she knew the groom's name, so I then knew the wedding and was able to identify the older man as my great grandad's brother, who I'd never seen a photo of before! 
Long post, sorry, I'm just saying, try thinking bigger about this, see if anyone locally recognises him.  I can't believe the success I have had!

I wonder would what looks like a newly installed vent on the wall behind him be any clue?
I have no idea really. New type of heating?

Could it be installing back boilers instead of coal fires as part of clean air act

Probably just a vent for the pantry. Back boilers would be vented through the chimney and any other heating boiler would likely have had a proper flue. Could be for an Ascot if it was a sensible installer, which I fear were few and far between, as a friend of mine discovered when he went home one day and found his wife and new baby dead from carbon monoxide fumes.... and this was in the early 70s.

The brick and render construction was typical of the mid 20s onwards so thats no help either
