Help with finding a birthdate for William Keyte
« on: Wednesday 19 December 18 18:09 GMT (UK) »
Hi I am looking to add to some information I have on William Keyte burial in 1788 at ST Botolph Aldgate.  He was recorded as a Gent at his marriage by licence to Anne Phillips in Arley then Staffordshire now vWorcestershire in 1771.   He had two children christened at Arlen Church. Maybe there were more but it seems the family had business in 15 Minories City of London.  Are there death certificates for this period . Are there business directories for this period too.  He was a Tallow Chandler and his son Arthur succeeded him in the business as an Apprentice within The Guild of Tallow Chandlers

St Botolph's Aldgate
Daughter Lucey was buried 5 March 1786 of Minories. Daughter of William

Wife/widow Anne was buried 8 December 1811 of Minories.

There is a William Keyte son of William and Ann baptized at St Luke Old Street Finsbury 28 October 1776. Not sure if he's part of your family.

Hello
Looked at that baptism for so William at St Luke 10.11.1776 born 28 Oct and he is a tallow chandler so would be yours.
There are also
Mary 18/30 Sep 1780 at St Mary le Strand and Samuel 22 Nov 1781 and 2nd Dec but no occupation given.
And of course you have Arthur 1773 and Lucy 1775 at Arley.
William is a voter in the elections St Mary le Strand tallow Chandler 1784 voted ofr Hood and Wray.
He appears on the Rate books from 1777 for Westminster at St Mary le Strand

Now William senior
possible baptisms in Worcestershire
William s of Samuel and Ann Keyte 31.3.1740 at Bretforton
William 31.8.1748 s of Ann Keyt at Blockley
William s of William and Ann Keyte at Pirton 1.4.1750

and William Kite s of William and Mary at Honeybourne 30.6.1746

Looking for more info in London
PCC Will of Samuel Keyte shopkeeper and dealer in coals mentions nephew William, brothers John and Thomas .Father Samuel ,wife Hannah. Sister Mary (Baker  ?). Neice Elizabeth Williams, nephew William Williams.
Burial 10.4.1793 age 43 Tottenham Crt Road at Bunhill Fields.
Samuel is a voter in the elections 1780 King St Soho
He appears there in the Rate books from 1777

He married Hannah Fletcher at St Ann's Westminster in 20 Nov 1774 so would be just about be the right age to be an uncle. He was of St Andrews Holborn.

Possible baptism for brother Thomas at Bretforton s of Samuel and Anne Keyte 17.11.1744 who also had a daughter Mary 29.11.1741.

Mary Kyte married James Baker by licence 16.7.1767 of St Andrew Holborn.
Elizabeth Keyte married Benjamin Williams St Andrew Holborn 8.11.1772

I know it's not a definite answer but I hope it gives you something to go on

Hi
So who noticed my mistake?
William Keyte tallow chandler was dead by 1793 so he couldn't appear in Samuel Keyte's Will as his nephew.
However William Keyte junior born 1776 would fit the bill and be 17 at the time.

That would make William and Samuel brothers born 1740 and 1750 .
Two brothers left Worcestershire and set up shops near each other in Westminster.

Any thoughts ? Any one another idea?

Is it likely that William and Samuel were born in London..

Father Samuel born in London.

How did William Keyte arrive in Arley from London.

His marriage was witnessed by Viscount Valencia Lord George Lyytleon’s son in Law living at Arley Hall at Over Arley Church . Is that a likely reason he cane from London to marry a local Anne Phillips .. who was she ?
