Help with 1618 address
« on: Thursday 20 December 18 15:10 GMT (UK) »
The attached is the address on a letter of 1618. I can read most of it:

To the right wrll (worshipful?)
John Trevelyan
? at Nettlecombe
? ?

Can anyone help with the two missing words?

The first is:  Esqr = Esq(ui)r(e)

The second is:  these

I'm not sure what the squiggle at the end is to signify.

Thanks horselydown,
I did see "these" as a possibility, but it didn't seem to make sense - I can now see that it refers to the letter itself ie. deliver this. Esqr looks obvious now you've pointed it out! I may return later with one or two words from the actual letter I'm having trouble with,

The squiggle at the end is indeed a stylized letter d -- standing for deliver (as in the instruction 'these deliver'). This is often found at the end of the address in correspondence of this period.
