« on: Thursday 20 December 18 22:37 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I am trying find out any information on Gilbert Edmonds Service Number 1084900  Royal Atrilery,

He is buried at Cesena War Cemetery.

Be great to find out which battle he likely died in, and if nyone has access to getting his military records that would be a bonus.

Many thanks in advance

I assume that you have seen the entry on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.

As this was WW2 his records will still be with the MOD and not available on any public site. To obtain his records you will need to apply directly to them. I believe it costs around £30 and there is certain criteria you must meet.

Agree with the comments on getting his records from the MOD....they don't exist otherwise and don't believe any websites that tell you they have them if you take out a juicy subscription.  It currently takes about a month.

The key piece of information you need for finding out what he was involved in is that he was in 26 Medium Regiment of the Royal Artillery.  he was also buried in another cemetery in Cesena and his grave/body was 'concentrated' in to its current location in 1945.  All this comes from his entry in the CWGC site.  A couple of others in that unit died the day before.  The circumstances of his death may be in the Regiment's War Diary at the National Archives, Kew but they are not on-line and you would need to go there or get someone to copy it for you.  There are a couple of guys who provide that service for a much lower cost than the National Archives do.
