Padgebrook, Ludlow, Shropshire?
« on: Friday 21 December 18 00:01 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

As my great grandmother, Sarah Adams was at Padgebrook, Ludlow, Shropshire, according to 1939 Census records, where she worked as Public Assistance.

1939. Padgebrook, Ludlow, Shropshire
Sarah Adams. 19 March 1873, M, Public Assistance

I've tried googling up Padgebrook and not having luck in finding it. Is it the name of place or a building? Seeing that Sarah worked as Public Assistance, would that be in a place of interest or somewhere that people attended?

Thanking in advance.

Have a look at the other addresses on the same page - suggests it may be the name of the house

Yes, possibly the name of the house where she rented a room or a place where she worked plus stayed?

I guess Padgebrook has been demolished since then as I cannot find anything on it.

Could it be Padgebrook Cottage in Nash

No picture I am afraid

Looking at the other addresses on the page in 1939 it seems pretty rural with addresses in different 'Hamlets'

Hi, 2 other addresses on the same page are listed as in Boraston, also at the bottom of the page is the Peacock Inn which still exists in Boraston.  I have had a "street view" walk around Boraston but cannot locate Padgebrook.  It is a small hamlet and not all of the houses have visible names so it may still be standing, just hiding.

I have found a newspaper article in the Tenbury Wells Advertiser 26 November 1907.
"To Let, at Padgebrook, Boraston, a good cottage.  For terms and particulars apply to E.V.V. Wheeler, Newnham Court, Tenbury"
Robbins - Wolverhampton.
Spooner - Monmouthshire & Wolverhampton.
Warner & Loundes - Dudley/West Bromwich.
Dod(g)son - Heysham/Liverpool/Wolverhampton

Thank you so much and those links were great, especially the old map and the two side by side photos . What a fantastic find re that newspaper article advertising the let in 1907!  I'm wondering how you managed to find and I couldn't?
