Query Place Name In Northumberland
« on: Friday 21 December 18 01:21 GMT (UK) »
 :D Hi Roots Chatterers,

Just wondering if anyone is able to help with Thomas Sullivan's residence at the time of marriage in Newcastle Upon Tyne 10 Dec 1876. Unfortunately this is a poor photocopy of a certified copy that has been attached. Hoping someone familiar with the area might be able to help. Many thanks in anticipation,

Pilgrims Progress  :D   :D

A difficult one. Presumably the place is near the groom's occupation. A coal mine. A rather long shot from me. At least I tried.

"Knowesgate railway station was a stone built railway station with goods sidings in Northumberland, England on the Wansbeck Railway between Morpeth and Reedsmouth that served the village of Kirkwhelpington".

Possibly meant to be .. 'New Daleval' in Northumberland? Spelling might be incorrect  Daleval instead of Delaval??

Read it before I read the replies, definitely looks like "New Daleval" aka Delaval :) So he's living in the Newsham area (area still called New Delaval) of current day Blyth, Northumberland :)
Northumberland: Young, Parker, Wolens, Keenlyside, Taylor, Costello
Scotland: Dempster, Henderson, Jackson, M(a)cMillan, M(a)cLanders
Ireland (Co.Mayo): Monaghan, Costello

+ all variations of above names.

Here is an interesting link about the place which appears to have written 1873:

http://www.sixtownships.org.uk/our-colliery-villages-new-delaval-1873.html

Added: I have noticed that I too (like certificate writer) spelt the place name incorrectly in my first post so have now amended to correct way.
