To Minniehaha -
Thank you for your efforts in this respect.  I have all this info prior - what I am looking for is a contact with his descendants, or family.  His siblings have all passed - one of them was my grandparent.

Thank you again.  Regards - Dinny.

To Janette - Thank you for your efforts in this respect.  I have the info you have offered.

Joe had 2 sisters both of whom you have advised of.  Rose Anne Margaret died young and unmarried.
During the 14/18 conflict when Joe declared his next of kin to be Miss C.M. Dickie - I believe this was indeed his mother, Mrs C. Dickey, also residing at Glentunnel in Canterbury.   Joe was born Dickey but whoever registered him got the spelling wrong and registered Dickie which surname was "set in stone" and will not be changed by the Registration people.   This is a  known fact within his siblings' descendants.

What I am looking for is contact with descendants or family.   Joe did marry apparently.

Thank you again.  Regards - Dinny.

To Minniehaha - Again thank you for your reply.
Papers past - I find this interesting and have filed it.  The surnames Dickey and Dickie are the same - it depends where one comes from.  I have been told by contacts many times that all Dickey/Dickeys are related.

My William Dickey arrived in NZ sometime around 1870.   He married Catherine Perry in 1879 at Cromwell.  She was a widow with children.   William and Catherine had another family, including Joseph Herbert.

I have information on both the Perry & Dickey families and don't require any further information on those families.

I would like to make contact with the descendants or family of Joseph Herbert Dickey only please.
Again, thank you for this information.  All the best for the festive season.  Regards - Dinny.

Hi Dinny

Joseph is my gg uncle, his brother Henry is my great grandfather.

I’m currently trying to trace the family back past their father William. His death certificate simply states his parents were unknown, and that he was born “North of Irekand” which isn’t so helpful. I notice (or rather, Janette pointed out) that Joseph’s army records has William born in America, but his brothers records state Ireland.

Any ideas?

Hello Sairin8,

Welcome to Rootschat!  ;D

I'm sure Dinny will be pleased that you have come on board to help with the family research.

To assist with William's birthplace it may be helpful to obtain printouts* for his children's birth registrations. It can vary from birth to birth and you may strike it lucky and get something more than just "America", "Ireland" or whatever.

Here is the data you can expect to find........

https://www.bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz/dataCollected/birth

*Cheaper and may contain more information than a certificate; and can be e-mailed.
