Letter of 1618 - a few words
« on: Friday 21 December 18 10:39 GMT (UK) »
Thanks to all who helped me with the address on this letter. I now have a few words I can't make out in the letter itself. What I can read (I assume) of these two lines is as follows:

for Somrset this yeare, for thother two doe both mak
and …… to kepe them out, by this my … I commend

I read the first query as:

....both mak
meanes to kepe them out

Not sure of the second, though.
Researching among others:
Bartle, Bilton, Bingley, Campbell, Craven, Emmott, Harcourt, Hirst, Kellet(t), Kennedy,
Meaburn, Mennile/Meynell, Metcalf(e), Palliser, Robinson, Rutter, Shipley, Stow, Wilkinson

Thanks Arthurk and Bookbox. I misread the word 'meanes' completely - I should have spotted the downstroke for the 'm'. I did wonder about  'letter' as that seemed to be the sense of it, but I didn't read the contraction correctly,
