Ancestry show incomplete data for all recent (after the 1980s changes) BMD register entries. The database has the data, but the display routine is a field short, so rather than fixing that, they decided not to bother. Apparently they want people to order certs through them at vastly inflated prices.

I have reported this as a fault on several occasions, but their "support" don't understand/care.

There are other databases where they have decided not to provide the proper source reference. Maybe they believe that they ARE the source, rather than just a Repository.
Looking at ALSTON in south Ribble area, ALSTEAD and DONBAVAND/DUNBABIN etc. everywhere, HOWCROFT and MARSH in Bolton and Westhoughton, PICKERING in the Whitehaven area.

Census information is Crown Copyright. See www.nationalarchives.gov.uk for details.

What were the 1980s changes please?

Thank you for drawing my attention to that Dawn  :)  I was not aware that Ancestry had not got the full details though F M P have but I should have remembered there were more numbers than earlier registrations on these records.   ;D

It's not only Ancestry that are a field short, the death index is available without subscription at familysearch.org but again the entry number is missing which is odd as they 'obtain' their data from FindMyPast.
