Of no one beats me to it I will likely be able to do this for you in the early new year.  Work and Christmas means I won't be able to get there any sooner. :)

Thankyou for your offer - I need to do some more research on James and Mary (on tablet at moment limited access to different sites) - I searched for James Crawford Elswick (1871-1901 living in Elswick) and found a site relating to Newcastle Evening Chronicle Death Notices - just thought someone could do a quick check to see if other peoples names are mentioned - if you are already going to do some research and have a few minutes i would appreciate the help  :)

I've just looked at bmd records and think James died in 1904, but there are two possibilities for Mary both in 1898 one registered AMJ the other JAS - hoping I don't have to buy two certificates! Newspaper articles look promising.

I have managed to fit a visit to the library for you after work today, so here are the notices sooner than expected.  I hope these do turn out to be your ancestors. :)

3 June 1898

'CRAWFORD.- 31, Glue Terrace, Elswick, aged 73 years, Mary, beloved wife of James Crawford.  Interred on Sunday at Elswick Cemetery at 2.30.  All friends kindly invited.  R.I.P.'

31 July 1891

Excellent  ;D

Thankyou so much for going out of your way to help me - very much appreciated.

The first two newspaper entries are definitely my relatives.

Thanks again  :)

You are welcome durhamgirl. :)

Also, just in case you might one day wish to visit the cemetery to check if they have gravestones I thought you might like to have their burial register entry information too:

Entry 32441
Mary Crawford
Age 73
91 Glue Terrace
Date of burial: June 5 1898
Section: R   Grave number 323
Removed from St Aidan's Parish

Entry: 37817
James Crawford
Age 79 yrs
71 Glue Terrace
Buried June 16
Section: R   Grave No: 323
Removed from St Aidan's Parish

As you can see they are both buried in the same grave.

I wonder if I read the house number incorrectly in newspaper notice for Mary, as burial entry clearly gives house number as '91'.  James is definitely down as '71' for house number.

These are kept at Newcastle City library on microfilm in the local studies department, 6th floor but there is a lift.. sorry I completely forgot to add the source when I last posted.  Anyone can access these at the library.    These records will also be held at Tyne and Wear Archives.  :)
