Vulcan Foundry
« on: Saturday 22 December 18 00:59 GMT (UK) »
Hi ,
I know there is a site which relates to the foundry in Newton Le willows, I was just wondering if there is anyone who uses this site that lives in or around the iron works, I am researching Thomas Francis Mitchell who worked there for over 30 years but cannot find any info about him. He died in 1970 and was buried in Warrington cemetery,

Death reg shows birthdate 9.4.1883 so he presumably retired 1940s or 50s.

How are you related to him?  How do you know he worked @ Vulcan?

Cannot say too much Proprietary site 1939 Register but there is a Thomas Francis Mitchell a …… man and slagman at Locomotive Works. 5 years difference in age. He is also an ARP Warden in Newton-le-Willows. Well worth subscribing to the site.

Thanks for the swift replies, he was my granddad but I have only just found this out through a very good historian and DNA, yes he was born in 1883 in Ireland and he married a widow in 1940 who was 20 yrs younger than him (he lied about his age) he was a slag man as it says in the 1939 reg but was hoping to find out more about him and hoping someone had a photo of him from a works outing or similar. Could you tell me how to subscribe to the site?

If that 1939 entry is your ancestor then the death in 1970 is questionable given the birthdates are totally different - not just the year of birth
