Henry Redpath b1819

Henry Redpath is my 2nd great grandfather. I’ve been searching for years for his death records. According to 2 letters from 2 seperate individuals in the family, he died in 1875. My mom always told me he died at sea and “ fell overboard”. Does anyone have any info regarding this? Thanks ahead of time.

Captain Henry Redpath was born in Greenwich, England in 1819. He sailed to India and Australia. His family immigrated to Ontario and settled in London, Ontario in 1872. My family believed he was drowned in the Great Lakes around 1875. It’s confusing because his name is in the census of 1881. I hope this extra info helps. His death info has become a brick wall for me.

 Lloyd's Captains Register will almost certainly have records for him. Wether or not it has details of his death is another matter. There is only one way to find out.
Lloyd's Captains Register is held at London (UK) Metropolitan Archives.They have an excellent research department.

Be sure to enquire first.

I would also try a search of "Ancestry" I believe they hold some Captains records.

Hello. I’ve already looked at the Lloyds Captains Register. I did find info on his voyages and ships. No record of death. I’ve been searching Ancestry and Family Search for years with no luck so far. Thanks for your info.

Henry's death is still on my unsolved queries - one of many questions.
I still think it would have been reported in some newspaper and will keep looking.

Hi,

The death notices I have found for Henry jr don't mention any family (no clues to date of death of father).  Has anyone looked for the obits/death notices of the other children to see if there is any information about Henry sr?

Did you go through this:

Some identify Captain's.  If not then find the crew list for its last voyage for the time frame you are seeking.  The records for the late 19thC were very good for the inland waterways of both Canada and U.S.

However, if it was early spring or late fall he may have not popped until the waters get warmer and could have drifted for miles; found and buried as an unknown.
