Frederick Henry Embling
« on: Saturday 22 December 18 07:22 GMT (UK) »
Am wanting to find the full service record and service number for my grandfather Frederick Henry Embling who we believe served in a cavalry division of the Dorsetshire Volunteer Regiment and served in India (New Delhi I think) from 1914 to 1918. He was awarded the teritorial war medal. We have a photo of him in the Equitation Class Kirkee in 1918.

Would anyone have any information?

Welcome to Rootschat, davidhx.

This may or may not be the right person but there is only one Frederick H Embling in the WW1 medal records. He served as a Gunner and Lance Bombardier in the Royal Field Artillery, service number initially 968, then 860534. He was awarded the Territorial Force War Medal.

It looks like his army service records have not survived (most were destroyed by enemy action in WW2).

Many thanks ShaunJ. Are there any detail regarding the division/regiment/battalion/company?

No not that I can see. His rank was Driver when he first went overseas - so that would explain the horse connection.
