I had one like this, where I knew the date of death from cemetery but it wasn’t in the index under anything I could imagine.
In the end I phoned them up. A very helpful woman (sounded young and tech savvy) eventually found it for me on some secret alternative list she couldn’t/wouldn’t  tell me about, it took her a while. I think she must have been able to search by date of death only.

PDF duly arrived The following day. There was nothing strange about the PDF, no weird spelling, no other surname that I didn’t know about (she had an alias and both her legal name and the alias are recorded)  so I am none the wiser as to why I couldn’t find it for myself.

Added, it still doesn’t show in the indexes even though I now have ALL the details from the entry.

Mckha489,
Thank you, if all else failed was going to take your advice and give them a ring after the holiday season, but the answer has been found.
Johnf04,
Many thanks, another mystery solved.  Had tried quite a few combinations but hadn't thought of  an "N" .
Will send them an email to try and have it corrected.

Cheers

This is another situation where using FamilySearch would have found him quickly. As FamilySearch has the NZ Civil Registrations Index in it's database, if you tried searching just the First Names "Frank Henri" in Country "New Zealand", he comes up as Frank Henri Anssell on the first page of results.  ;)

Hello Rakiura John & Johnf04
Thank you for that information.  :)  Tried it and found him with no problem. Had tried FamilySearch using full name, but as he was a Seaman just got a lot of Immigration Records.  Wish I had known this a long time ago as some of my family have strange surnames that have been misspelt in various ways and took some time and help to find.  Am sure this tip will be very useful in the future.
Compliments of the season to you and yours

Searching FamilySearch with "First Names only" can also be useful in tracking down a female relative who changed her name by marriage, or (by not specifying a Location) a relative who moved overseas.
