Carolus Bloor Marriage 1694
« on: Sunday 23 December 18 16:45 GMT (UK) »
I'd like an opinion on the name of Carolus Bloor's wife on the register entry - possibly Williams? The name has been transcribed as Wilmi, but this seems unlikely. The image is from a Cheshire Marriage entry on Find My Past, dated 24 March 1694, but with no indication of the parish. Has anybody any idea where it might be? Possibly it's somewhere in the Wirral as I think one of the entries mentions of Thornton.

Happy Christmas to everybody.

In the register for Witton Chapel (Witton-cum-Twambrooks) there is, under Marriages 1694 (image below) ...

Carolus Bloor et Maria Williams p(er) publ:  Marcij 24
Charles Bloor and Mary Williams by publication (of banns)  March 24

Very many thanks. Obviously the same wedding. The entry in the unknown register must be a contraction of Williams - not very good handwriting though.

I now see there are entries for Charles Bloor at Witton. It still leaves the question of which register my extract was from.

If you look at the entry again in FindMyPast you will see at the bottom of the page the no of the page and the word Go.  Enter page 2 and you will see the register is for Witton Chapel.

It still leaves the question of which register my extract was from.

It's not straightforward, because there is more than one register covering Witton at this date, and FindMyPast's identification of each register is unclear. For example, the register where I found the marriage entry posted in reply #1 is labelled by FindMyPast as a diocesan register of burials.

There are also bishop’s transcripts for Witton, accessible on FamilySearch, which show yet another entry for the same marriage, written in English (image 296 of 647, col. 3, 4th entry from the bottom)
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-67YS-DS6?i=295&cat=577391

As Witton was a chapelry of Great Budworth, one register may have been held in that parish and another at the chapel itself.

For clarity, you may need to email Cheshire Archives and ask them to provide call-marks for the registers covering Witton that have been digitised by FindMyPast.
