What checks have you already done using online info?

From freebmd www.freebmd.org.uk

Births Dec 1840  Thompson  - Thomas Woodburne     Ulverstone    25   185

His baptism is on Family Search and Family Search also have him on all the various census

Family Search also has his marriage with partial transcription - full date/spouse  and respective fathers names

Have you checked GRO online to establish his mmn?

Baptism names mummy and daddy as Betsy and John  :)

1841 living Town End Cartmel - just him 8 months and Betsy 30 and John 25 on census.

By 1871 he is a stone mason married to Sarah and has 4 young children - John 6 - Sarah Jane 4 - Elizabeth 2 - Mary 2 months.

By 1881 there are 5 more children - Thomas 8 - William 6 - George 4 - Lucy 2 - Dora baby -

and 3 more by 1891 - Charles 8 - Albert 6 - Jessie 3 - so plenty of people to investigate.

Thank you Carole and milliepede for replies. Looking at the number of children they had it was obviously before tele’s had been invented! 😳
Here’s wishing you both a Merry Christmas and a Healthy New Year.

GRO has Thomas W /Janes Mothers maiden name as NEWBY
Cant find a Marriage for John Thompson to a Betty (or Elizabeth) Newby though.

But there is this Marriage though on LancsOPC

Marriage: 27 Jul 1838 St Mary, Ulverston, Lancashire, England
John Thompson - (X), of full age, Stone Mason, Bachelor, Cartmel
Elizabeth Marshall - of full age, Spinster, Cartmel
Groom's Father: Thomas Thompson, Mason
No Father named for Elizabeth***
Witnesses: Mary Thompson; Thomas Pennington

Also 1841 Census has;
John Thompson 25
Betsy Thompson 30
Thomas Thompson 8 mths
John Marshall 4*****

On Census Betsy Thompson is born c 1805-1808 Cartmel

BAPTISM:
1 Mar 1807 Priory Church of St Mary and St Michael, Cartmel, Lancashire, England
Elizth. Newby - Daughter of Anthony Newby & Jane
Born: 26 Dec
Abode: C. Town
Occupation: Tailor

MARRIAGE;
28 Jan 1793 Priory Church of St Mary and St Michael, Cartmel, Lancashire
Anthony Newby - this Parish
Jane Woodburne - this Parish

I cant see at this stage why Elizabeth (Betsy) is saying she is single when she married 1838.

I would appreciate you input CaroleW and Milliepede :)

Lancs OPC has;

Baptism: 11 Sep 1836 Priory Church of St Mary and St Michael, Cartmel, Lancashire, England
John Marshall - Son of William Marshall & Elizabeth
Abode: Ch Town
Occupation: Labr.

Marriage: 26 Jul 1835 St Nicholas, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
William Marshall - Carter, Liverpool
Elizabeth Newby - Spinster, Liverpoo

I may be right off track here some would appreciate others opinions.

Thomas baptism (probably with year mistranscribed as Ancestry have it with no image as 11 oct 1840 though it appears in the right place for 1839 in the register on lan-opc

Thomas Woodburn Thompson Son of John (a waller) & Betsy Thompson of Ch. Town bp 11 Oct 1839 Priory Church of St Mary and St Michael
