Vant 1916: Corporal George Timothy Vant, 13351 Worcestershire Regiment. Killed in Action. Commonweath War Graves  Commisson.  Will available on "Find a soldier's will".
1916: In the tiny intimate cemetery of Rancourt found on the eastern fringes of the Somme, you discover the graves of Corporal Vant, Serjeant, Bowen & Private Workman of the Worcestershire Regiment killed on Christmas Day 1916 proving that there was not always goodwill and peace to all. One wonders if they were under Army orders or they were taking advantage of a Christmas lull in the fighting and were taking a look around. Thank you for their Army Numbers.

After the unofficial Christmas truce of 1914 the Army banned any kind of familiarisation with the enemy.
On Christmas day 1916 it was business as usual for the men in the trenches.
