Disappeared from the electoral register
« on: Wednesday 26 December 18 18:49 GMT (UK) »
Hello everyone and I hope you had a lovely Christmas!  It’s given me some extra time to continue with my searching but to no avail.  I have a disappearing person in my tree and am wondering whether I have to go to London to look at the electoral register or if there is another way?  Many thanks.

Hello and thank you for replying Romilly.  Are you asking me for her name?  Could I PM you if so as I wouldn’t want to post it here and upset any family members.

Who, when and where.  Sorry I pushed the send button too quickly.  The person in question is a distant relation.  So distant I’ve never met her!  She lives in London.  I firstly tracked her to E17 but she then disappeared and I can’t find her on any electoral registers, although I’ve been told she lives in N16 now.

Hi Kathy,

Is she a living person?

If so, we can't Post about her on here.

192.com is usually the best place to start, although Ancestry and FindmyPast have Electoral Roll Entries.

Thanks Romilly.  I’m not sure if she is alive.  She isn’t showing up on any of the sites you mention and she isn’t showing up on death records either.  I’ve got her until 2014 but then nothing.  I know where she is supposed to live now but she could have opted out of the electoral register.  Other than going to London I’m at a dead end.

Hi Kathy001001,

Welcome to Rootschat.

Why not write to the address(es?) that you have got for this relative?

TraceGenie.co.uk is another search tool you could use, in addition to 192.com.

Regards

Thanks Ray,  I would write if I thought I would get a response but as I don’t know if the person in question still lives with their family or they have now divorced or she has left the country or is now deceased it’s a little awkward.  I’ve tried tracegenie and 192.  Complete blank.

Hi

If you cannot write to her for the reasons you give, then why do you want her address from the electoral roll?     A visit face-to-face?     Surely not?

If she is that "remote" to you (/the family) then surely, for tree purposes, you have enough info?
