If you are desperate to find the half-sibling then purchasing the possible birth certificates until you find the correct mother is a way forward.

Yes, Rosy and Stan, I have tried to find out more about this matter a few years ago.  I don't work on my family tree continuously - I tend to leave it for sometimes a year or more and then pick it up again.  I guess that's the way many of us work on our trees, though.

You could also add a postem to the free bmd birth entries - so that if the birth person or a relative or interested party looks at it they could contact you that way.
