c1710-19 Baptisms of John Neave & his wife Tabitha Atkins
« on: Thursday 27 December 18 18:28 GMT (UK) »
I'm looking for the baptisms of John Neave (Neve at marriage) and Tabitha Atkins. They were married 27 October 1746 in Gressenhall. John was buried 2 February 1776 (aged 66) in Gressenhall and Tabitha was buried 21 March 1798 (aged 79), also in Gressenhall.

They had at least four children, baptised in the same village between 1748 and 1766, but I have been unable to find any trace of either of their baptisms.

Hello,

Been unable to find a likely baptism for either, but here is John Neave's will, dated 1777
May give you a few clues  - he had property in Garveston , for example.

You need to be signed in to Family Search to view it.

Hi again,

Following on from the Garveston "link" in the Will, a possible baptism for John, found on Freereg.
John Neave, baptised Deopham, 12 March 1709/10, son of John and Ann Neave.

Deopham, Garveston and Gressenhall are all within 6 miles of each other

Yorkslass,
Yes, that is a fantastic document and most useful. It proves that John & Tabitha had the two more than four children I could prove (Charles, Mary, Mary and Charles) but suspected, the new two ones being Elizabeth (John Neave was a witness at her marriage) and John (who married Mary Bell in Castle Acre, but settled and had children in Gressenhall). John Junior is my ancestor and in the absence of a baptism for him I've been looking for evidence that John senior was his father for ages.
Many thanks; I'll be following up on this tomorrow.
Steve.
