John Kilgour / Helen Lister (Markinch, Fife)
« on: Thursday 27 December 18 21:40 GMT (UK) »
My 7th grandfather Joseph Kilgore (alternate spelling Kilgour/Killgore) was the son of John Kilgour and Helen Litster. He was born 6 July 1701 in Markinch, Fife, Scotland and emigrated to America around 1716. I’ll be in Scotland in February and will come to Markinch. Can anyone tell me the chances of finding John Kilgour’s grave or any family home or lands he might’ve owned?

Unless you have a particular place in Markinch, I'd think that was going to be pretty difficult to find where their actual home was.
Do you know whereabouts in Markinch they lived?
Have you found his burial?
Is there a Memorial Inscription for him? As Rosinish has said - you may be able to find one that gives more details - although probably if there is one it would just say 'Markinch'.

Have you tried Googling him?
Put '"Joseph Kilgour" Markinch'. (you need to put his name in inverted commas).
Several sites come up with information - for all I know they are yours! but if not you may find something of interest.

There's this one -

Is this the same man?
They have him going to America in 1718.
They have obviously done quite a lot of research into him.

This is obviously the same man:

Good luck!  :)

Thank you for your response. Joseph Kilgore, Sr., (1701-1764) definitely is my ancestor. Our family lineage in America was thoroughly researched and documented in a published, two-volume history written by Roy E. Kilgore, who I believe has passed away. Unfortunately, I don’t currently have a copy of either volume in my possession. What I would like to find is an extant physical connection to the family in Scotland. I’m a novice at genealogical research, thus dependent on the help of others. I will try Googling in the manner you suggested.
