Identification of Army Regiment
« on: Thursday 27 December 18 23:16 GMT (UK) »
My father-in-law lived in Scarborough, North Yorkshire and joined the army in WW2.
I do not know which regiment he served in.
I know that the 2nd Battalion Green Howards were based in Scarborough before serving overseas.

I know that he was captured and put into the notorious Changi Prison Camp in the eastern part of Singapore.

Can anyone recognise the Regiment from the attached photographs.

All help appreciated.

The cap badge is too indistinct to tell for sure, but from the shape it could be Royal Engineers. Perhaps someone else may be able to make it out.

I see there is a previous thread on this topic:

I am not seeing him on POW lists or on the Changi rosters.

Have you thought of applying for his army records?

I did a previous post in case anything new had come up.
I tried to obtain his service record but they refuse to do anything without his Service Number, despite the forms saying that a date of birth woud be OK instead of a Service Number ! !

I thought the pics looked familiar!

Their "refusal" seems odd.  Did you query this direct with Glasgow?  A personal approach to the help line may well produce a different result.  0345 600 9663 they are very helpful indeed (although it may be sensible to leave it until after Hogmanay!)

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

What about his medals? Do you have them or know where they are?

Married 1934 to Charlotte Ellen Taylor in 1934 in Scarborough.

Later Hirst - Taylor birth registrations in Scarborough, March 1940 and June 1941, are they theirs? Also one in Sep 1945 (might not be theirs!)
Stanley + Charlotte are on the '39 Register in Scarborough.
