Burial recorded at St Peter's, Leeds, but states buried at St Mary's?
« on: Friday 28 December 18 23:47 GMT (UK) »
I have 2 ancestors both recorded in the burial records for St Peter's, Leeds.  But under the date column it states the date and then under both, states at St Mary's. Does anyone know which St Mary's this was likely to be?  They aren't the only ones listed on the page as buried at St Mary's.  In fact most on both pages are listed as buried there.

Thank you

Hi there

I was just about to post the same query! I have it down as St Marys Mabgate. I too have a relative down as at St Peters Church but then under burial it says St Marys - the same entry is also under St Marys Mabgate.  Hope this helps.

My query is where were they buried was it St Peters or was it St Marys Mabgate as they listed under both. My person died in 1842.

Hi Pineapple,

I don't have the records for St Mary's Mabgate, but have found a lovely aerial photo of the church and graveyard on Leodis

http://www.leedsindexers.co.uk/Churches/051-075/062_20St_20Mary_20Quarry_20Hill.html
and this as well

Thank you for your reply, it does make sense as one was listed as dying in "hospital" and the other "Mabgate"

Hi CJ

Thanks for this, I had just looked at that Mabgate church picture only earlier this evening ! I thought it was a nice one. The documents relating to the layout of the church are very interesting. Thanks so much.

I have just found an old thread about st Peters and St Marys from 2012 on this site entitled :-
Topic: Whatever happened tothe graveyard of St Marys Church Quarry Hill

In it it says that Yes, St Mary burials are entered at St Peter, with the note in the entry to say "at St Mary"   - so our people were bruied at St Marys but entered under St Peters as their are no burial records for St Marys.

That answers a question for me too.
Kind regards
