« on: Sunday 30 December 18 20:11 GMT (UK) »
I don't have a subscription but when I first uploaded my DNA to MyHeritage I was able to contact matches I just tried now and I got the you need to subscribe message, is this recent or do they give you a few free contact messages for a while.

There were changes from Dec 1 but not sure if messaging was stopped.

Ah right,
It may be that the match uploaded after Dec 1, shame it's one of the very few interesting looking matches I got there.

Thank you.

Sinann, I haven't tried since Dec 16, but as your 'rights' were maintained, it shouldn't matter whether the new match has paid extra or not.

https://blog.myheritage.com/2018/12/starting-today-new-dna-upload-policy/

If you have already uploaded your raw DNA data to MyHeritage from another testing service prior to December 16, 2018, you are grandfathered in and will continue to enjoy access to all of the extra DNA features for free.

Try again, sometimes there is a glitch, I'll have a try as well.

Regards Margaret

Modified.

When I try to contact someone outside of DNA matching, I am told that I need a subscription.

When trying to contact the same person through DNA matching I am able to send a message.

I tried again but no joy so I tried a couple I know was there before Dec 1st and the message box appeared.
It may be because the match is only on MyHeritage since Dec 1st that the message function isn't working for him and therefore not for me either.

I'll try again later.

Be interested to know how you get on if you could keep us updated please.
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.

Just tried again and it worked ;D so must have been a glitch after all.

Thanks I wouldn't have kept trying without the encouragement.

Fingers crossed I get a reply.

I've been luckier with My Heritage replies than with Ancestry, so hope you get a reply  :)
