Handwriting Help Spanish-American war.
« on: Sunday 30 December 18 23:09 GMT (UK) »
Hello All,

Hoping to get a few opinions regarding the parent/guardian listed on my Great Grandfather's service record for the Spanish-American war.  The name listed doesn't match up with a different source; I don't know his parent's names with any certainty.  He was born in Switzerland; I can make that out on the form, but am unclear on the two words that proceed it.

Many thanks!
Lyle

I thought Mary Gustman.

He was a farmer

The 2 words before the second Switzerland look like Shiers Pert ?? (Mary's address)

Terrific, thanks so much everyone!  I think her name was either Mary Gurtman or Mary Gustman; difficult to tell definitively.  At least I have solid clues to follow up on!

Finally, thanks for the "Shiers Pert" suggestion, Dawn.  I did a quick Google search and turns out there is village called Schiers in the Prättigau region within the canton of Graubünden (where my Great Grandfather was born).  A phonetic match, I think!

Best,
Lyle
