Yes this is Julia Ann .. she was married and also assumed names. I just find it confusing when the newspaper article calles her his wife. However this can also what they want people to think.

Unfortunately Thomas does not come up in any other record I have found so far. I am hoping Julia's death record will give me some clues when it eventually comes through.

What does the amendment actually say?  It looks to me as though it is indexed twice because there was no marriage date recorded when the birth was registered.

I assumed that if it had an R at the end of the registration number that it had been amended? Have I got that all wrong?

There is no R in the Registry's online indexes, but she may have illegally registered the birth as a married woman and it was then altered.  You would only know if you see the certificate.

She wasn't married to FOGGETT either.

The R came from the Australian Birth Index on Ancestry. Might just be an error. I’ll go back and have a look at the records thanks

Possibly the same man who married in 1896 and died in 1948. His age also fits a Thomas COMANS who has a prison record with photos on PROV.
