Ron Hughes's mother was a DeHavilland (or so the family think). My mum thinks they were divorced around the time of WW2.

I can't see a Hughes /DeHavilland marriage on freebmd or births for these names

In case these are relevant...
Following from the Southampton marriage there is a Ronald R Hughes in Southampton in 1939 born 1915
Probably this one
Births June qtr 1915
Hughes    Ronald R    mmn Wilkins
Southampton    2c   123

There is also a Dorothy J Hughes leaving Southampton (First class) for Madeira in 7 Feb 1953 - Housewife -age 40 -address Chesterfield House, Pakefield Road, Lowestoft

From various sources, including a couple of trees on Ancestry, Dorothy Joan Jakeman is definitely the right lady, born 15/6/1913, and 'Ron' would appear to be Ronald Rupert Hughes (son of a Rupert) born 18/4/1915 Southampton.   They did indeed marry 1940 Southampton and it appears they had a daughter born 1943 Wolverhampton (where Dorothy was in 1939).

If, as stated, they divorced, these could be possible re-marriages for Dorothy:

Dorothy J. Hughes married Kenneth A. Young Dec.1944 Southampton

or

Dorothy J. Hughes married Richard Fisher June 1951 Wolverhampton.

The death entry posted for a Ronald Rupert Hughes in Sept.1977 Bromley shows a birthdate of 18/4/1918 - believe the year should be 1915 as Ronald Rupert was born 18/4/1915.

Thank you everyone....my mum says they did indeed have a daughter called Susan but shes not sure about the Dorothy bit. Hasn't heard about the bigamy story and her dad was William Francis Jakeman. Evidently she was a nurse but the black sheep of the family so no-one saw much of them. Thank you everyone.....sure if l can tie down the Dorothy name shes the right one.

It was William Francis.  the two women were  first Wife Madeleine Bride   They don’t  give her maiden name, and Ellen Rosina Buckley.
It seems Madeleine got sick of them moving from place to place when she had a new baby so she went back to Wolverhampton (to her parents?) and William Francis was in lodgings and that is where he met Ellen.  She was told he had a wife but he denied it so she married him in Blackpool. (Only a few weeks after meeting him)   He was sentenced to 6 months.
He has a few driving convictions too.

PS I think you should delete the Hughes daughter’s name as she could potentially still be alive.

Added, Madeleine was MULROY

Hello everyone...thanks very much for all the info.

My mum thinks Susan died in London so I'm safe there.

Isn't family research such a lot of fun...always a hidden skeleton somewhere.
