Thomas Carroll of Dublin
« on: Wednesday 02 January 19 10:33 GMT (UK) »
I'm looking to trace the Carroll side of my family back further. I followed a line for several generations before finding out it was wrong but i feel like i'm so close. I want to trace the line before the family made the move from Dublin to Cardiff in about 1910. I have a copy of his marriage certificate which shows him age 19 in 1902 marrying Josephine Lynch in Dublin South. His profession is down as soldier and his father is down as John (deceased). I can only guess at Johns profession Porter, Painter, Pastor, can't read it. The other thing i know about Thomas is from the 1911 census taken in Cardiff when he puts his place of birth as what looks like MaryHill India and his nationality as Irish

That does look likely to be my Thomas Thankyou. I had a possible mother for him of Mary Jane based on a possible birth record for him in 1879 in India but was unsure because it would mean the age on the marriage certificate was wrong, 23 instead of 19

There is a John CARROLL and his wife Teresa living at
house 11.6 in Christ Church Place (Wood Quay, Dublin) on the 1901 census LINK
John was born in India

at house 24.8 in Grenville Street (Mountjoy, Dublin) on the 1911 census LINK

One witness at the Thomas CARROLL marriage was a Teresa CARROLL

ALso noting Teresa does not state how long they are married only she had one child
however there is an 1897 marriage that looks like a match LINK

Teresa was born in Aldershot which could imply an army connection

If Mary Jane CARROLL on the 1901 census is proven as Thomas' mother
this looks like the death of his father on November 26th 1898 LINK #497

That all looks very likely thankyou. I will need to study that death record, it looks very informative but quite difficult to read!

Looks like the 20th November. The informant, his wife, registers the death on 21st November 1898.
