Harriet GODDEN died West Ham Q2/1856
« on: Wednesday 02 January 19 14:52 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone know more about her? Does the parish burial record have any additional details (e.g. age, next of kin, single/married, etc.).

I'm wondering if she is the elusive ancestor that seems to have disappeared from records after 8-May-1856 following the birth of her son George (she wasn't married) in the Winchester Union workhouse. George was then brought-up by her parents in the South Stoneham area of Hampshire.

My Harriet was born at Botley (Hants) in Q1/1837.

Many thanks for your interest....

Harriet Godden was aged 47 when she died, makes her date of birth 1809 ish unless I am mistaken

Are you sure this is your Harriet?

For more information you will need to purchase her certificate of death

Hello Louisa Maud and thanks for responding. Sadly, that age doesn't fit at all so not "mine".
Was that from a burial register?

Cheers...

I took it from ONS, you can log in quite easily and look for births and deaths, births will give mother's maiden names which isn't elsewhere as far as I know and also ages on death prior to about 1865

Did you find Harriet at home with her parents?

Who were her parents.

Where did you find her place of birth, you give a Q1 1837 reference but registration did not start until Q3 in that year.

Where is George Godden in 1861

Quite right Rosie, I haven't found a registration for her

1841 Stoneham there is a large family of  Godden
father James, mother Jane plus 6 children, one of which is an Harriet aged 4

1851
Same family with an Harriet aged what looks like to be 10, plus more children

1861 same family with children plus  Grandson George aged 5, no Harriet

1871 same parents but with just George grandson at home with them aged 15, at one stage he is showing as birth Bishopstone

George's birth is registered Godden and MMN Godden

If this is the right family of course

I will wait to see what more information Kingsclere comes up with.

It is possible as someone has suggested that she took on another man's name or moved miles away from here area, initially it was thought she dies in West Ham area which was well away from her home
