Hi both,
I appreciate your referring me to the GRO certs website... I wasn't aware that those extra details were freely available so this will be a useful resource for me.
I have, indeed, been seeking what happened to Harriet for many years, I know all about her family and her son's which makes it very frustrating that records relating to her after she left the workhouse don't seem to exist. I do have his birth cert. Considering the West Ham death was just grasping at straws really as I've no reason to think she was ever there.
My knowledge of her birth is from Botley parish register baptisms (2 Apr 1837) so have assumed she was born in the previous month or two (which I shortened to Q1).

There doesn't seem to be a suitably aged Harriet (of any surname) born in the villages of Botley, South Stoneham, etc. in 1861-1881 census -- well, there are possibles but they check-out as not her. I can now only think that she called herself something entirely different for some reason and died with that alias.

Thanks again for answering my original question re: West Ham.

That Botley baptism is
2nd April 1837
Harriet Godwin
parents James + Jane
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NKGF-YG6

Also baptized there, George Godwin, 9 December 1832
and Charles Godwin, 15 February 1835

Looks like the ages of all three may be out in 1851.

8-May-1856 following the birth of her son George (she wasn't married) in the Winchester Union workhouse.

Yes, members of this family and their ancestors/descendants are shown in various records through the ages as Godwin, Godding, Godin, Godden and Goddon. The latter two most often.

Hi all, this is pretty interesting..
I found a mourning ring on Etsy and its based in the US: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1029653206/georgian-victorian-antique-18k-yellow?ref=internal_similar_listing_bot-1
I became interested in Harriet's background. I googled her name and the internet led me here.

The description mentions Harriet's name, DOB, and date she passed away (at age 26, bit short from her 27th bday):
"Inside is engraved “Born 18 Mar. 1837 died Jan. 7 1864”
Harriet Louisa Godden on the front. A locket of Harriet’s hair remains inside."

I'm fairly certain this is the Harriet OP was looking for since the DOB with "Q1, 1837" mentioned in the thread.

Welcome to RootsChat 24kguo.

I think the Harriet you've found is a different one to the one Kingsclere was researching. Your one appears to be the daughter of Benjamin and Harriet, and born c1837 in Durham.

Oh 24kguo_, how I wish it was so! But I have to agree with cuffie81.
Thanks for your interesting news, though.
