Ampthill Population Query

Can anyone tell me what the population of Ampthill was in the early 18th C, please?

Best I can find by a quick google is 1900 approx in 1831.

Bob, At the start of the Ampthill Parish Register transcript... it states that 'the population of Ampthill in 1801 was 1234 and in 1931 was 2168'

In an ideal world, the year 1707. However, a rough estimate from the first quarter of the century would suffice.
