I've just noticed that there are other tools on the site.

Interesting, hadn't noticed them before.  What Are The Odds looks a bit complicated, might give it a go.

Margaret, I'm relying on you to try it so that you can explain it to the rest of us.

Would be interested in your findings, Margaret. I'd like to play with it when you've worked it all out.

I'm sorry to say that I can't work it out at all!   Hope someone else will try it to clarify.

"The goal of WATO is to help you figure out where an unknown person fits into a known tree. "

This article explains all !

I've been using it to see if one of my 2xgreat grandfathers "played away" and it looks plausible.

The key thing is that you do need to get the shared centimorgans from the "target" person.

South Bucks - Miller Mitchell Horton

Think you've confirmed what I was thinking after reading the instructions, Steve.

Does this mean that you need info from each of the group about their shared cMs with the target (and possibly with each other)?

I've worked out where 6 (including me) of the matches I share with the "target" fit into my tree.

I asked the "target" what centimorgans she shared with each of us - so no need to get those figures from all the other matches.

It was then a case of adding hypotheses and finding the most likely.

If I wasn't in touch with the "target" I suppose I would have to ask each individual match for their figures - luckily I didn't have to in this case.
