As a matter of interest does anyone know when the photographer, T. H. Mc Allan was operating his business in Hexham? Cheers, Rob

On all the late 1870 - early 1880 McAllan CdV's I've got his address is given as Fore Street.
There are references to him in the Hexham Courant of 1877 as having premises at 23 Fore Street and at Seal House.
In the 1871 census he is at 23 Fore Street and is described just as a Music Seller, and his wife as a photographer so maybe he was taking her name in vain in the labelling of the photos! (RG10/5145/76/4)
However in the 1861 census he is resident at Heddon on the Wall and calls himself a photographer.

I've just realised that I misread your question. I do apologise. I read when as where  ::)

Blame brexit.

The earliest CdV I've got marked with his Hexham logo has been dated to mid 1860's.
