Annotations on Immigration documents
« on: Friday 04 January 19 15:33 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I have difficulty reading the annotations of Mary and Elizabeth Rafferty on the attached ships manifest - Aliens held for special Enquiry

From what I can gather they were admitted to the US on 30.10.1928 (same day as everyone else)

Reason for detention is ...C and LPC - I understand that LPC is likely public charge, but I can't decipher the first set if initials

Anyone able to help me understand what the reason for being held was, and what it meant?
McClean, Kelly, Murray, Higgins, McAnulty (McNulty, Conalty, Kinolty), Morgan, Rafferty, McPolin (All Co Down, Ireland) Bowman, Hooper(Yorkshire)

All I see is Mary Rafferty - 2 cab - group 7 - no 13/14 ENG  - LPC -  ditto 10.00 - Inspector Ferro

LPC is as you said Aliens likely to become public charges

Thanks,

I had looked at image 299, but not 300! So it was for Medical reasons the special Inquiry - they obviously passed inspection then.

Did you notice on anc that someone had added a name variation - Mary McAlinden rather than Mary Rafferty ?
