On Ancestry he is still redacted. If you search for Ann Higson b1860 on 1939 register for Blackpool you will see where he should be.

Why are Ancesty slower at unblocking people than FindMyPast??

so annoying

1939 register look ups aren't allowed.

From Ancestry wedding records Thomas Farringdon married Marianne 14/4/1917  Fässbergs, Göteborg och Bohus, Sverige.  From these records his date of birth is given as 14 Nov 1854

Sweden, Indexed Marriage Records, 1860-1947

If the Thomas born 1855 is the correct one then there is a death Q3 1837 Blackpool age 82 which might fit.

This is the situation as I understand it.

FindMyPast had the exclusive contract for scanning and digitising the 1939 Register, including adding the black redaction strips.  They remove some redactions each week because they know what's under the black strips.  They can unlock entries for people born over 100 years ago and other deceased people found in the GRO death index.

None of this applies to Ancestry.  Periodically someone, presumably FindMyPast, gives them an updated version but Ancestry can't do anything themselves because they don't have access to the original books.  They're not keeping entries concealed to be annoying; they're doing it because that's the way it is.

At some point in September 2039, the entire register will be open (minus a few proven centenarians who choose to remain redacted).  That's something to look forward to :D

What is Robert's DOB on FindMyPast 1939 please?

You can work this out yourself without a sub to FindMyPast.  You access the 1939 on FindMyPast and select the advanced search
https://www.findmypast.co.uk/1939register

You then search for Robert - you have been told how he is transcribed.  You will see that there is 1 result to that search.  The advanced search gives you the opportunity to enter a full birth date so enter just the birth year,  it will show you have the right year by still saying there is one result. Then try each month ie 1, 2, 3 etc it will show -'no results' until you select the correct month. Then do the same with the days of the month.
