Woolford - Sydney, NSW pre mid 1850’s.
« on: Saturday 05 January 19 12:06 GMT (UK) »
Hanging off a branch, I have Mary Ann WOOLFORD.  When she died in Victoria in 1873 it was said that her father was Charles WOOLFORD and that she was born in Sydney in 1837.  Mary Ann had a relationship with a man named HIN YEE and a number a children were born on the Victorian Goldfields.

NSW BDM’s do have a baptism for a Mary A WOOLFORD in 1837 to a Charles and Bridget.

As you know, I’m VERY Victorian...

Please help!

Her death registration doesn’t have any parents recorded:

9408 1873 HIN YEE Mary Ann Father's name Mother's name Place of birth SYDN Place of death Aged 36

This is the only Bridget death:

1592/1864 WOOLFORD Bridget AGE 76 YEARS DIED SYDNEY SYDNEY

Thanks Jamjar

It must of been a record I saw on Ancestry that noted her father as ‘Charles WOOLVER’!

I have just found that Mary Ann married Adolph RADDAKAR in Victoria in 1855.  Her son Charles born 1861 is registered under WOOLFORD, YEE, and REDEGAR (sounds like Raddakar).

Any word on Charles and Bridget in Sydney?!

Her son Charles born 1861 is registered under WOOLFORD, YEE, and REDEGAR (sounds like Raddakar).

Charles was only registered once but INDEXED three times because of the arrangement of the names on the certificate.  It most likely names the father as An YEE and the mother as Mary Ann REDEGAR formerly WOOLFORD as that was her correct name at the time.

The  certificate of marriage between Mary Ann WOOLFORD and Adolph RADDAKER will have the information you are seeking.

Possibly  Adolph had arrived from Germany  14/3/1854.
A. REDDACKER (?)
Ship Oscar Vidal.
Born 1829

The document is in German so I cannot decipher much more about him.

A man of similar name made a marriage
RADERNACHER, Adolph to BRIDGET LINEHAN
1861/1597

There is a death at Geelong.

RADEMACKER  Adolph
Father Rademacker Fredk
Mother  Helena (Mensenga)
At Geelong
Age 84
Reg 6098
Year 1916

In 1863 Mary Ann was witness at an inquest in Ballarat (WILFORD spelling)

Charles R isn’t the father. I looked at him, last night. Ruling him out had something to do with a daughter that had been born overseas, I think the year Mary was born here.

I’d first thought the Bridget may have been Maria. The mother of all the other Woolford children with father Charles.

There is an article mentioning a Bridget Woolford and it mentions her sons, in Sydney. I can’t see any son births/deaths to fit.
