So we can try and find him, presumably the information about his father came from a marriage certificate.  Who did he marry and when/where

Where is he in 1851

Milford Haven would have been in the parish of Steynton. There are a couple of John James baptised there around the right time but neither has a father called Benjamin and also possible burials for both, one aged 13 months and the other aged 19.

Possible entry on the Welsh mariners Index for a John James b. Milford 1821 who was supposed drowned after abandoning ship 23 Nov 1867.

Marriage Liverpool
25 Dec 1847
John James full age B Mariner Jordan St father Benjamin occ weaver
Joanna Poulson S Jordan St father George Poulson  occ Tobacconist
Witnesses John Griffith Thomas Haddon

possibly the John James who drowned in 1867 is the correct one - Joanna is on 1881 census as a widow and 1871 daughter Florence is an inmate at the Blue Coat School
