Can you check your copy of the d.c. please and give the details found there, as I am sure there will be RChatters who will help further once they have the information you will know from that death 'C'  registration (not with a 'B' so not registered Brisbane)

Qld BDM ref #C1670

This is a tricky one!
Someone clearly knew him well enough to know his parents names and more importantly his mother's maiden name, so perhaps a sibling or his parents of course.
There are at least 5 Richard Morris on Qld Immigration lists, but no matching parents on same ship.
There are a couple of marriages in England of John Morris and Elizabeth Harris c 1850's ( I couldn't find them in Qld) Also at least one 1861 census entry of a John and Elizabeth Morris with son Richard b 1857.
Nothing on death in  www.trove.nla Qld newspapers.
If you purchased the death certificate it should give his age which woiuld be a start.

Is this the person you are researching?

Evening Journal 22 Mar 1872 p2
https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/196738920?
...Richard MORRIS son of Mary Ann MORRIS....

If Richard did not stay with his family, I doubt that the QLD death, 1885, is him....with good details about his parents.

You have the marriage certificate, 1853. What church are they married in.....who are the witnesses.....does Richard sign his name?

Where do you see a suggestion of occupation for him?

I do not have a death certificate. That is why I posted on the forum - to see if there was any other information out there before obtaining one. The reason I was interested in the death entry in QLD BMDs was because a newspaper article about his son's marriage in 1884 stating that Richard was 'late of Southport'. I know of two Southport's in Australia - one in Queensland and one in a beach area in South Australia near Port Noarlunga.

Richard is also known to have travelled throughout his time in South Australia - I have records of him in country South Australia and moving between SA and VIC.

His occupation was shoemaker. He is not to be confused with his son Richard who also had the same occupation (and appears to have been involved in street-fighting).

He was married to Mary Ann Rundle at St Andrews Church in Walkerville. She would marry for a second time in September 1880 to James Wishart and called herself a widow, but I am uncertain if Richard was actually deceased at this time.

This page will provide you with the details that I have on his life - https://familypedia.wikia.com/wiki/Richard_Morris_(1827-c1884)
