What a wonderful find Trish thank you so much. I will investigate further & hope it's them, as you say too much of a coincidence. It's been my biggest brick wall for a number of years. Looks like your hunch about the surname being Paton could well be the right one CarolW, thanks for your help too.

I have found the copy of the Marriage Register for Martin Paton & Mary McGuire (It does state Maria Mcguire on one of the transcriptions though) But no luck with finding them on any Census in the Shropshire area  :(
On Margaret Paton's Baptism you found Trish it states Matrina Fuit Brigitta McDonnell, would she be the Godmother? Also this Baptism was held in the same church, St Gregorys Longton where Patrick Morris & Ellen Paton married in 1871. Not having much luck with finding any more information as yet.

I dont have access to the image of that Baptism so yes the person you mention may be the Godmother/Sponsor of Margaret.

St Gregory's is a Roman Catholic Church - 'Matrina fuit' is Latin for 'The Godmother was'
So the godmother's' name was Brigitta McDonnell (or it could be written as Bridget McDonnell)

My goodness Trish they did mix up Maurice's DOB on the 1841/51/61 Census, just out of curiosity I looked up his death and he died 1864 age 104 thanks for the rest of the info. Thanks too for that information Chris.
