Colour coded filing system

I am thinking of overhauling my current family tree filing system due to space OH is complaining.

Current system is large foolscap ring binders around 14 in number. Each folder represents one or two branches of my family. Each folder is split into sub sections which are identical in each binder.

Was thinking of going to a suspension drawer file system colour coded, has anybody done anything similar and gave give any tips and ideas thanks
