Hi All,

I was looking for the birth/baptism of a 3G grandfather believed to been 1795/6 from St Luke based on consistent information 1851/61/71 census informtaion and came across the attached snippet from St Luke christening 1796.

John Sherman son of John Smith & Frances b Dec 8 (1795) c 1 Jan 1796

Could this be him?

He's John Sherman Smith, son of John Smith and Frances i.e. 'Sherman' is his second Christian name.   If you look at the other baptisms, the vicar just writes the Christian name/names of the child being baptised.

Thanks, Annette.

I suspected that too, so looked for later references just this very minute found he married as John Sherman Smith in July 1816.

I also found the marriage of John Smith and Frances Sherman (widow) July 1794.

Not my guy at all.

The only baptism I can find is a John Sherman bp.21/8/1796 St. Sepulchre, London son of William and Ann.    Baptised with him is a William Sherman who was born 12/4/1793.
