Photo date please. Wonderful hats! Kate Hopkins, UK.
« on: Friday 11 January 19 01:15 GMT (UK) »
Can someone help with a date for these fantastical hats?
I think the lady on the left is Kate Hopkins nee Fennessy, born 1853.
Thank you for helping – much appreciated! :)

What a wonderful photo!!  Well I am certainly no expert and I waited to see if anyone could answer this, but I'll throw my opinion in.  Here's a snip from a family photo of 1907 or 1908 (not sure which daughter's wedding it was as no names, but one married in 1907 and one in 1908), and the hats are also wonderful creations - almost like Easter bonnets!  Not sure if this helps, hopefully someone more knowledgeable will come along soon!

Those huge hats are a dead give-away!  You wouldn't want to be seated behind one at some show would you!!   ;)

Rian  - your ladies are a little more restrained in the hat department aren't they - so maybe a little later . . . . . ?

Just made them a little easier to see.

Can anyone tell me about when they think this photo was taken?  It was in England but that is all I know.  So maybe by the style of clothing. The names on the photo may not be correct.
John George Harold, Arthur Albert Harold, Harriette Leggatt, Charles Harold in England, Scotland & Wales.  John George Harold was a Sargent Major with the 16th Lancers.  So they moved often.

I would say Rian's ladies hats are bit later perhaps more 1912 give or take a couple years.

Thank you everyone. I was making a wild guess at about 1910 so it's great to have it confirmed.
