A picture speaks a thousand words. I found two pictures in these two articles from thednageek (site already mentioned in an earlier post) to be particularly enlightening.

The figure 5.2 graph here (note there are two versions of it in the article - the one mentioning meioses, and the one I found useful) - https://thednageek.com/the-limits-of-predicting-relationships-using-dna/

The graph/cluster chart with lots of little coloured circles near the bottom of this one https://thednageek.com/meiosis-schmeiosis/ (the figure 5.2 graph is in here too)

They go together particularly well with the chart at The Shared cM Project 4.0 tool v4 mentioned in the first post on this thread. Look at all three and then, like me, you'll think you understand it all !  ;)
Most roots researched back to the early/mid 1800s. Years noted as 'pre' refer to my direct ancestors, although I'm interested in any relatives:
Mitchelstown, Co.Cork: CORBETT (pre1935), SWEENEY  (pre1935), CUSACK? (pre1894), KEYS? (pre1894)
Mallow, Co.Cork: BROWNE (1895-1935)
Caher, Co.Tipp: BROWNE (pre1895), PURTELL(pre1895)
Cashel, Co.Tipp: FANNING (pre1886)
Llanelly, Carms: GRIFFITHS (pre1934), REYNOLDS (pre1901), WILLIAMS (pre1934)
Ton Pentre, Glams: LEWIS (pre1901)
