Help with father's occupation please
« on: Friday 11 January 19 16:57 GMT (UK) »
Hi all.
I'm having difficulty working out the occupation for William Chapman Bradley's father, John.  The document is William C's baptism record (dated 11/06/1820) and the occupation looks like 'Lunt'.  I've not heard of that, and Google is obviously sulking as it's not being too helpful!

Is there anyone who could give me a nudge in the right direction please?
Thanks, in advance.

Surely the occupation is 'tailor'? Lunt is in the 'Abode' column.

Edit this is wrong, see next reply.

No it's not  :-[ ignore me.

I think the abode and occupation columns have simply been filled in the wrong way round. The next person down has 'servant' in the abode column and 'Lunt' in the occupation column.

The baptism is in the Parish of Sephton, and Lunt was a Township within that Parish.

The order of the registers, introduced in 1812, was father's occ, then abode, so you are correct.

Add - now I've got it wrong!

On this register the order is name, surname, abode, profession.

Edit And this is, of course, the correct way round, as Gadget points out. Apologies, just ignore me for a while  :-X

Thank you both.  Looking at the whole image again, the occupation and location have been filled in the wrong boxes.  I think I need to take a break!

I've given myself a good talking to  ::)
